Off The Record
Sony Music Nashville’s Morgan Wade goes Off (The Record):
My guitar player, Clint Wells, who produced Obsessed, and I actually started just going to studios on the road and cutting songs that were coming to me organically. After the first few songs, we realized a record was forming and just kept barreling onward.
Because I write so much solo, I wouldn’t say it was “part of the plan” to write every song on my own as much as it happened that way and I do feel most connected to the songs I write solo.
Being on the Triple Moon tour with Alanis [Morissette] and Joan [Jett] has been so impactful for me. They are both such iconic, independent women, and while they are certainly artists first - they’re also such sharp businesswomen. I’ve learned a lot from both of them on stage and off.
My health and wellness is tied directly to my artistry. I am not going to be able to do my best writing or performing unless I am taking care of myself.
My fans have been really incredible in that they follow along with my music as I learn about myself and grow or think about things in a new way or just revisit old experiences. Obsessed is another extension of that. I just write what I know.
It’s not a new music story exactly, but a fan shared a story with me recently about her time in rehab and listening to my music to get through - that really struck a chord with me. We have a VIP program where I meet fans and hear stories all the time that are just great, funny, sad, sweet. All kinds. I’ve connected with a lot of them in that way.
When I was younger, I was a huge fan of Kesha. Just because I consider her a friend now doesn’t mean I don’t still think she’s also an incredible artist with that voice! Having her on “Walked On Water” was a no brainer.
I am currently Obsessed with my brand-new tour dog, a frenchie named Chop. He has all the tour crew wrapped around his finger. He has only made life better since I got him on a tour stop in Baltimore.
